I was originally drawn to Arbonne’s skincare line and the promise of pure and safe ingredients. I have tried just about every single organic and toxin-free skincare product that has ever been invented, most of them ended up in the trash because they simply did not deliver results or were too greasy. My skin was looking very dull and I was getting all these tiny wrinkles around my eyes. No doubt the results of an incredibly stressful year with a bit too much alcohol and caffeine consumption thrown in for good measure.
I’ll admit I was skeptical when I was first approached about Arbonne and the Healthy Living Inside and Out program. My first thought was that I don’t need these supplements and it would be a total waste of money.
It was mid-November, and I was half-way through my health coaching certification program and getting prepared to take on my first paying clients. The stress of managing three businesses and going to school was taking its toll on me. I was drinking WAY too much red wine and although it is healthy in moderation certainly not when you’re drinking a bottle of wine several nights a week. My diet was on point during the week, but on the weekend I was having “cheat meals” and eating foods that I know don’t agree with my body. I was drinking two huge cups of coffee to get me going every morning and crashing every afternoon.
After a lot of consideration, I made the commitment to try out the program for the month of December. December is always full of holiday parties, calorie-laden delicacies, more celebrating than usual, and always gaining an extra 5-10 pounds to lose in the months to come. My thought process was that December would be the most difficult month for a cleanse, which is why it would be a fantastic challenge. By spending the money and investing in myself I knew I would be more likely to stick to the program to the end to make sure I was getting my money’s worth.
I ordered the supplement package and started mentally preparing for what I was about to attempt. No gluten, dairy, soy, sugar, coffee, juice, soda, processed foods, or alcohol. Next, I cleaned out my fridge and pantry of all the tempting foods and replaced them with loads of fresh organic produce and grass-fed/pastured meats. I studied all the Arbonne 30 Days to Healthy Living and elimination diet materials I could get my hands on, and I was ready to get started!
At the time, I was not fully sold on the skincare regime portion of the cleanse and instead opted to replace a few of my expensive medical-grade skin creams that were almost empty. My thought process was that I would try them out and see how I liked them before jumping in and buying the entire collection. They were half the price of my regular products, so I was saving money in that respect.
A day on the cleanse is rather simple and somewhat similar to how I was already eating as a health-minded individual studying nutrition. For breakfast, I have a green smoothie with a packet of the Digestion Plus Probiotics, a scoop of the Green Superfood Powder, two scoops of protein powder, a frozen banana, healthy fats (1/2 a small avocado or 1/4 cup of coconut milk), and about a cup of frozen berries. Also, a cup of organic green tea. Next, I exercise. Usually, it’s a combination of cardio, weight-lifting, and/or yoga. After my workout is complete I eat a small organic apple. Lunch is always a huge salad full of colorful veggies and drizzled with olive oil and vinegar. I mix up an Energy Fizz drink to sip on after lunch and keep my energy up throughout the afternoon. If hungry in the afternoon I will have a small handful of nuts. Dinner is a portion of lean meat (around 5 oz. of salmon, chicken, turkey, eggs, or a vegan protein source like beans) and the rest of the plate is steamed vegetables. After dinner, I have a cup of detox tea and a square of dark chocolate (not on the cleanse but totally necessary to maintain my sanity).
The first week was rough. The lack of coffee gave me headaches and a general grumpy attitude. My body was detoxing all the junk out, and it was not fun. Here I thought I was living a super healthy lifestyle already – but there was certainly room for improvement. After a few days, the headaches went away and I started to feel like myself again. The first weekend with no wine was also challenging, however, I was starting to feel so good that I didn’t really miss it too much.
The second week was much easier. The detox symptoms were gone, my digestion was improving, and my attitude was much more cheerful. Also, my skin started clearing up and suddenly everyone was complimenting how great my skin was looking. That was a nice boost to keep me committed to the program.
The third week is the cleanse phase, where you gently flush everything out of the system. By day two of the cleanse I was feeling amazing, had lost several pounds, and my abdominal definition started making an appearance.
Week four was Christmas, which my husband and I celebrated at a resort and spa. I stuck to the plan almost the entire vacation with just a few tastes of some delicious food and too much Champagne. Usually, when I’m on vacation I will eat everything in sight and start drinking with breakfast. It was nice to feel more balanced and in control of my cravings.
As I am writing this, it is the final day of the cleanse and I am feeling the best that I have in years. My skin is glowing and free of breakouts, my energy level is consistently high throughout the day with no afternoon crash, I have far fewer cravings for food and alcohol, and I am not constantly bloated. Also, everyone in my office had a cold or the flu and I never got so much as a sniffle. I’m feeling so amazing that I’m going to continue with the elimination diet and do another round of the cleanse and see where it takes me.
Several friends asked me if the Arbonne 30 Days to Healthy Living products are actually worth the investment. In my opinion, it was worth every penny spent. I know you’re probably thinking that you can do a 30-day elimination diet yourself, skip all the supplements, and save money – and yes, you certainly can do that. Elimination diets are a wonderful way to reset your body and discover any underlying food sensitivities and, as a Health Coach, I highly recommend that everyone complete an elimination diet for 30-days to get in tune with their body. The beautiful thing about the Arbonne 30 days to Healthy Living Program is that the very act of purchasing and using the supplements makes you change your regular routine and experiment with new ways to nourish your body. You have invested money on the products and so you will be more likely to stick to the program to the very end and see real results. After the cleanse is over you don’t have to keep buying the supplements – but you may be feeling so amazing that you will want to keep up the momentum with a few of your favorite supplements from the line.
